Podczas rozdania najważniejszych nagród przemysłu telewizyjnego, wchodzących w skład tzw. czwórki EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tonny), było sporo niespodzianek. Nie zwyciężyły, jak przewidywano, wysokobudżetowe klimatyczne seriale science-fiction. Mimo sporej ilości nominacji, “Stranger Things i “Westword” musiały ustąpić miejsca ważnym tytułom, w których osią fabuły są sprawy kobiet.

Produkcja HBO, czyli “Big Little Lies” (“Wielkie kłamstewka”), zdobyły na nagrody za najlepszą reżyserię, najlepszy mini-serial, najlepszego aktora w roli drugoplanowej oraz najlepszych aktorek pierwszo- i drugoplanowych w mini-serialu. “The Handmaid’s Tale” (“Opowieść podręcznej”) została natomiast najlepszym serialem dramatycznym. Nagrodzone zostały poza tym aktorki – pierwszoplanowa (Elisabeth Moss) oraz drugoplanowa (Ann Dowde).
